Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke at the opening of the Silk Road Forum, which started in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
“PEACE IS REQUIRED FOR THE SOUTH CAUCASIA”
Pointing out that they attach importance to regional and international transportation lines passing through Armenia, Pashinyan said, “Peace is needed for the South Caucasus. It is important to establish economic, cultural, political and humanitarian relations through open borders and solve all problems through diplomatic means. This is not possible without opening the roads.” he said.
In his speech, Pashinyan stated that they have developed a project called “Peace Junction” to contribute to regional peace and said, “The project means the construction of transportation roads, pipelines, railways and energy transmission lines between Armenia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran.” he said.
Prime Minister Pashinyan argued that the shortest route connecting the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean could be created with the transportation and energy transmission lines to be built in his country within the scope of the project, and that the Persian Gulf could be connected to the Black Sea, that is, Georgian ports, in the north-south direction.
PEACE AGREEMENT WITH AZERBAIJAN
Pashinyan stated that his government is working on a draft agreement to be signed for the establishment of peace and relations with Azerbaijan, and noted that Azerbaijan and Armenia mutually recognize their territorial integrity, and that work will continue to determine the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan within the framework of the “1991 Almaty Declaration”.
In this context, Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed his hope that a peace agreement will be signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the coming months.
Türkiye STATEMENT
Touching on Turkey-Armenia relations, Pashinyan said that efforts are continuing to open Turkey-Armenia borders to third country citizens and diplomatic personnel in the recent period, and that if this happens, it will be an important development for peace and stability in the region.
