Guterres made a written statement regarding the developments in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Guterres made the assessment that “We are on the brink of the abyss in the Middle East” and stated that he had two important calls.

Calling on Hamas to release the hostages unconditionally, Guterres said, “Israel must provide immediate and unimpeded access to provide humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.” he said.
Guterres underlined that water, electricity and other basic needs are exhausted in Gaza, and noted that the UN has warehouses in Egypt, Jordan, Israel and the West Bank, and that it can transport the products there within a few hours.
