Statement from the UN regarding the deployment of North Korean

Developments in Ukraine were discussed at the UN Security Council (UNSC). Informing the member countries here, Miroslav Jenca, Deputy Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and America at the UN Political Affairs Unit, stated that there were more civilian casualties across Ukraine as a result of Russia’s attacks and that the damage to critical infrastructure continued.

“We are following with grave concern recent reports of the deployment of North Korean military personnel to Russia.” Jenca said that the possibility of the personnel in question being sent to the conflict zone is also worrying.

Jenca stated that the UN does not have additional information about the reports on the subject and that it is not in a position to verify or confirm the reports.

“We call on all relevant actors to refrain from steps that could lead to the spread and intensification of the war in Ukraine.” Giving his message, Jenca reminded that the UNSC also made some decisions regarding North Korea.

“We call on all countries to comply with UNSC resolutions, especially those concerning North Korea,” Jenca said. he said.

Drawing attention to the dangerously escalating course of the war in Ukraine, Jenca noted that this would lead to more pain, destruction and deep geopolitical divisions.
