The entire world has been talking about the cyber attacks targeting Lebanon for two days. More than 20 people lost their lives and more than 3,000 people were injured in the attacks, in which pagers and radios used by Hezbollah members were simultaneously detonated.
STATEMENT FROM ISRAEL
While Hezbollah holds Israel responsible for the attacks in question, a new statement came from Israel.
“WE ARE IN A NEW STAGE”
“We are on the verge of a new phase in the war,” said Israeli Defense Minister Gallant, adding, “We are shifting our forces and resources to the north. We will protect our villages.”
WHAT HAPPENED?
Following yesterday’s cyberattack using pagers, which left 12 people dead and 2,800 injured, 300 of them seriously, a new cyberattack was launched on the communication devices used by Hezbollah in Lebanon. This time, the handheld radios used by the group were detonated in the south of the country and in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut. It was reported that the radios were purchased by Hezbollah five months ago at the same time as the pagers that were used in the cyberattack.
9 DEAD, MORE THAN 300 INJURED
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that 9 people were killed and more than 300 were injured in the second attack.
HESBULLAH VOWS REVENGE
Senior Hezbollah official Hashem Safidini said the group was facing a “new phase” and stressed that “attacks will not go unanswered”.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said of the pager explosions that it was very important “not to weaponize civilian objects.”
Around 3,000 Hezbollah members were injured in pager explosions in Lebanon yesterday. Following the incident, Hezbollah attacked Israeli barracks today in retaliation.
The United Nations Security Council will discuss the pager explosions in Lebanon on Friday.
