Start Ymir Quest and find all Finger Ruins – How to do it

In Elden Ring there is an ominous guy in a dark cathedral who wants to help you and give you gifts. His name is Ymir. You can find out how to complete his quest and find all the finger ruins here.

Where can I find Ymir? To find Ymir, you must reach the Place of Grace, Cathedral of Manus Metyr. You can reach the cathedral by staying on the eastern edge of the Moorth Ruins. There you will see a collapsed building that is located in a gaping hole.

Jump down and follow the path until you find a ladder that will take you back up. You’re on the right path when you’ve climbed out of a well and reached the Bonny Village mercy.

Now walk through Bonny Village and stay on the northeast path until you cross two suspension bridges.

Follow the path of our markings (the green arrows indicate the underground path)

Now follow the dirt road further up and keep to the left, eventually you will reach the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Ymir is sitting on his throne and waiting for you to speak to him.

Below we will show you step by step what you have to do for Ymir’s quest and how you can find the Finger Ruins. You can use our directory to jump to the individual steps of the quest.

Find the first finger ruin

When you speak to Ymir for the first time, he will give you a map and the key object “Carved Necklace”. Your task now is to find the first finger ruin and ring a bell there. The first ruin is called “Finger Ruins of Rhia” and is located between the sky blue shore and the Blade Peak.

The place is difficult to reach, but with our map you will find the right way. Start from the grace “three-way intersection” and follow our map. The green arrows mark the underground path you have to take:

Red arrows mark above-ground paths, green arrows mark underground ones.

Once you have rung the bell, you will receive the reward “Crimson Talisman +1” and can now return to Ymir again.

Talk to Ymir and Jolán

Once you have rung the first bell, you must travel back to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Once there, speak to Ymir again so that he gives you another card. You will also receive the talisman “Beloved Stardust” as a reward – powerful for magicians.

If you have exhausted all of Ymir’s dialogues, you can also learn two new magic spells from him: “Shimmerstone Nail” and “Shimmerstone Nails”. Once you’re done, turn towards the mercy and keep to the left. There is a new NPC named Jolán at the last pillar. Speak to the grumpy knight and exhaust all of her dialogue options.

That’s where Jolán is.

Defeat Anna, Swordhand of the Night

Go to the Mercy Cathedral of Manus Metyr and rest there once. Now Ymir will have disappeared from his throne. Interact with the throne and press a hidden button. A mechanism will move the throne and you can use a ladder to visit the Finger Ruins of Miyr.

Run towards the bell until the intruder “Anna, Sword Hand of the Night” greets you. Defeat him and receive the weapon “Claws of the Night”.

Then return to the Cathedral Grace and speak to Ymir, who is back on the throne, about the intruder. Once you’re done, you can also tell Jolán about it. After visiting every NPC, you now have to find the second finger ruin.

Find second finger ruin

The second finger ruin is located northeast of the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. It is called “Finger Ruins of Dheo” and is tied to a secret and can only be reached once you have obtained the “Oh Mother” gesture from the Bonny Village.

The gesture is located on a headless corpse outside the village, near a dead tree. We show you the location on the map:

Once you have received the gesture, you have to go from the place of grace “Shadow Keep, back gate” to the right into the small chapel where there is a statue of Marika. Now use the gesture “Oh Mother” in front of the statue and wait until it moves to the side on its own.

Use the “Oh Mother” gesture.

Now follow the path further and keep to the finger ruins that can be seen from a distance. Watch out for enemies that might stand in your way. Two tree knights patrol the area on their horses and challenge anyone who stands in their way. We have once again made you a map with precise directions.

Follow the path we have marked to the ruins.

Once you have reached the ruins, all you have to do is ring the bell. After you have done that, you will receive the talisman “Sky Seed Talisman +1”. Now you can return to Ymir and discuss the next steps with him.

Talk to Ymir and Jolán

Once you have returned to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, you must speak to Ymir. He will now give you the third map, which will lead you to the last finger ruin. Speak to him until his dialogue options repeat.

After you’re done, you can also buy the “Fleeting Microcosm” spell from Ymir. Now go to Jolán and talk to her until you’ve exhausted her dialogue options. After you’ve spoken to everyone, go to the last ruin.

Find the third finger ruin

The final Finger Ruin is located beneath Ymir’s throne. Rest nearby at the Place of Mercy again and activate Ymir’s throne while he is mourning at the graves again. Take the ladder down and ring the final bell. This will lead you to a boss fight.

Defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers

Once you have rung the bell, you will be teleported to an intermediate dimension and there you will have to face the cosmic being “Metyr, Mother of Fingers”. The boss is relatively easy and can be easily defeated with a strong blood build. Once you have trimmed the boss’s fingers, you will receive the “Echo of the Mother of Fingers” as a reward. With this echo you can create two weapons:

  • Staring Finger (Giant Weapon with Magic Damage)
  • Staff of the Great Beyond (Shimmerstone Staff)
  • After the battle, return to Manus Mety Cathedral to continue the quest.

    Defeat Jolán and Ymir

Once you have arrived at the cathedral, you will be haunted by Jolán. She wants to destroy you because you are no longer acting in the best interests of her master. Defeat her and wait for Ymir to spawn as the boss. Defeat Lord Ymir as well and receive his High Priest Set including the Shimmerstone Staff “Mother’s Staff” as a reward.

Give Jolán the Iris of Grace or Darkness

After defeating Ymir and Jolán, you can reload the Cathedral area to find Jolán crouched on the ground, in the same location where she always stood.

Now you have the choice of determining your end with the Iris of Mercy or the Iris of Darkness. Depending on what you choose, the reward you receive at the end will also vary. You can pick up the following items:

  • Iris of Eclipse: You will receive the spirit ash “Jolán, Swordhand of the Night”.
  • Iris of Grace: You get Jolán’s katana “Sword of the Night”.
  • These were all the steps you need to complete to complete Ymir’s quest. What did you think of the quest? Did you have problems finding the ruins?
