Both the Harry Potter novels and Percy Jackson were initially made into films by the same director. The fantasy material is also quite similar, but the two film series suffered very different fates. Percy Jackson – Thieves of Olympus is on TV today.
That’s what Percy Jackson: Thieves of Olympus is about
Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) just wants to live a normal teenage life when he is suddenly told that he is the son of Poseidon. From this point on there is no stopping him and the young person is drawn more and more into the world of the gods. At a demigod camp he meets Grover (Brandon T. Jackson), a satyr, and Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), a daughter of Athena.
Unfortunately, Percy Jackson is also directly accused of stealing the so-called ruler’s lightning bolt from Zeus (Sean Bean). Of course, the young demigod then sets off with his newfound friends and supernatural abilities to find out who really stole the ruler’s lightning. Of course, the illustrious group has to deal with all sorts of creatures from Greek mythology.
Percy Jackson was never as successful as Harry Potter, but maybe it will work now
The books enjoy a similar cult status as the Harry Potter series and are now even getting new parts after years, but things didn’t really work out with the films. Which is not because of the first part, which is definitely exudes lots of charm. It’s a real joy to watch the cast (Rosario Dawson, Uma Thurman!) oscillate between modern Los Angeles and the world of the gods.
But even though Chris Columbus was in the director’s chair for both the first two Harry Potter films and Percy Jackson: Thieves of Olympus, the series after part two has already been crushed. Percy Jackson 2: The Spell of the Cyclops failed with fans and critics. But at least there is now another attempt at Disney+ to do justice to the template.

Percy Jackson – Thieves in Olympus is showing in primetime today, Friday, February 9, 2024 at 8:15 p.m. on RTL 2. There’s a repeat at 2 a.m.
But if you don’t have time for these dates, you can also watch the film online as a stream. With Disney+ it is included in the subscription and you can rent or buy it via Google, Apple, Magenta TV, Amazon and Maxdome.
