The Rijnenburg polder is approximately a thousand hectares in size and is located in the armpit of the A2 and A12. “Underneath the highway lies a fairly unspoilt area,” Graafstal explains. “Until the beginning of the Iron Age, a large river flowed in this area. It was an attractive area for boating, fishing and living, which is why several settlements were scattered around.”
