On October 27, two Moldovan citizens were caught red-handed when they sprayed dozens of Stars of David on house facades in Paris.
A few days later, around 200 newly painted Stars of David were discovered in the Paris region. The police identified two more Moldovan citizens who were involved in the paintings, using surveillance cameras.
According to several French media, the two arrested have said in questioning that they acted on the orders of a person in Russia.
Mobile data confirms the information that the couple had contact with a pro-Russian Moldovan activist in Russia, and allegedly received 100 euros for doing the job.
But Russia dismisses all suspicions.
– It is an attempt to invent that someone is behind the increased anti-Semitism. It is nonsense, nonsense and undignified, says Maria Zacharova, spokeswoman at the Russian Foreign Ministry, in a televised speech.
That is why the Star of David is painted
The reason why Russian actors would like to paint Stars of David on house facades in Paris, may be to shift the focus away from the war in Ukraine. That’s what Stefan Ingvarsson, analyst at the Center for Eastern European Studies says in SVT’s Aktuellt.
– The main purpose of Russian disinformation is partly to polarize our societies, fuel existing conflicts, and then to draw attention away from support for Ukraine.
