Star Wars star reacts to The Acolyte cancellation and reveals

There was great hope that The Acolyte would bring a breath of fresh air to the Star Wars universe. Set 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, the series tells the story of the creeping Decline of the High RepublicHowever, after only one season with eight episodes, the ambitious project was canceled.

The Acolyte was a novelty in the Star Wars universe in many ways, for example with regard to diversitywhich was felt in front of and behind the camera, as well as in the context of the story being told. This fact has made the series the target of hateful comments, as lead actress Amandla Stenberg explains.

For The Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg, the cancellation of the Star Wars series comes as no surprise

In several Instagram stories (via Variety ), the actress commented for the first time on the Cancellation of the seriesShe also reveals her experience of the creation of The Acolyte and its subsequent release on Disney+.

Stenberg says:

I want to be completely open and say that [die Absetzung von The Acolyte] is not a big shock to me. Since the announcement of the series, when it was still a concept and nobody had seen it, we were Onslaught of hostilities We faced a storm of hyper-conservative bigotry and vicious remarks, prejudice, hatred and hateful language directed against us.

The violent reactions did not simply pass her by:

Even if I [mit diesen Reaktionen] I have expected this to be something that cannot be fully understood, until you have experienced it yourself. But I think I have overcome these feelings in a number of ways, including by speaking out about them myself. […] At some point, I realized that in order to continue being myself, I had to defend my value system by speaking out about it, including through my work for Disney.

Despite the negative experiences, Stenberg takes many positive memories with him:

It was an incredible honor and a dream for me to be in that universe. Of course, I’m very sad that the show was canceled. […] I want to let the people out there who have been vocal in their support of us – despite and especially in the face of all the abuse and targeted attacks we have received from the alt-right – know that you have been deeply loved and appreciated. That has made the work all the more worthwhile for me. The Acolyte is not the first Star Wars project to be overwhelmed by a wave of hate

This is a repeat of a sad story that we have unfortunately seen far too often in pop culture and especially in Star Wars. Actors report that due to their involvement in a project, attacked by humans Most recently, Reva actress Moses Ingram reported on this in the Obi-Wan series.

The Acolyte joins a shockingly long list of films and series where we have similar toxic behavior patterns Nevertheless, the series is currently receiving a lot of support from the Star Wars fandom: Over 50,000 signatures have already been collected on a petition for season 2.

According to insider reports, the cancellation of The Acolyte has nothing to do with the negative reactions. Instead, the weak performance at Disney+ may have been the deciding factor. Lucasfilm has not yet made an official statement about the premature end of the Star Wars series.
