Star Wars Outlaws developers respond to “unfair” criticism of the map – “This is taken out of context”

Fans criticized Star Wars Outlaws because of the presumed map size. Now the developers have responded to the criticism and dismissed it as being taken out of context.

What did fans criticize about Star Wars Outlaws? In an interview with IGN, the developers of Star Wars Outlaws revealed that the game’s planets are two to three times the size of a zone in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and it would take 5 minutes to traverse them with a speeder.

These statements ultimately led to criticism from fans. To many users, this initially sounded like a map that was far too small. For example, user MattAAW commented under the article on X that the 5 minutes that many players get hung up on is a euphemism for an “extremely small map”.

The criticism is unfair and taken out of context

How do the developers react to the criticism? Following the criticism, our colleagues at JeuxVideo spoke to Julian Gerighty, the creative director, about the players’ reactions.

He described the reactions as “unfair and taken out of context.” He further explained that the time given was merely an estimate of how long it would take to ride a speeder bike in a constant straight line without any distractions.

Other players also seem to find the current criticism exaggerated. In a Reddit thread by user “spurs_legacy,” the player explains that the quality of the map is more important to him than the quantity. Some other users also share this view.

This is probably a different approach than the sci-fi RPG Starfield, which had countless planets, but most of them were pretty empty.

What can players expect in Star Wars Outlaws? However, according to Gerighty, players can look forward to a world that offers plenty of activities and doesn’t disappoint with empty space. The main goal is to create a dense and vibrant world that offers players an immersive experience in which they can sink for many hours.

This is not the first time that Star Wars Outlaws has been criticized before its release. The game already caused trouble in April because it requires an internet connection for installation.
