Saber Interactive continues to work on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake despite being acquired by Embracer Group.
One of the classic games of the Star Wars universe. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake continues to be developed by Saber Interactive.
Post-Acquisition, Star Wars KOTOR Remake Continues to be Developed
The KOTOR remake project faced a number of challenges during its development. The project was first announced to be recreated in 2021 exclusively for PC and PlayStation 5, using modern graphics and a contemporary engine. However, its development by Aspyr initially caused concerns, as the studio had not previously undertaken large-scale projects. The situation changed in 2022 when Embracer moved development to the more experienced Saber Interactive. However, with the sale of Saber Interactive by Embracer Group for $247 million, new questions have arisen about the future of the project.
Despite these changes to the remake, Saber Interactive remains committed to the project. A KOTOR remake remains in development as part of Saber’s departure from Embracer, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports. Although the game is not expected to be released anytime soon, Sony and Lucasfilm Games’ investments in the project indicate that its development will continue. Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer, stated that the game will not be released in the next 12 months.
