Star Trek fans need staying power. At least in the cinema. Because while the franchise is happily flourishing in the series segment, the tide has been low on the big screen for years. Star Trek 4 has been in development for years and finally got a director in Matt Shakman (WandaVision). But he jumped off again. Because of Marvel.

Marvel inflicts backlash on Star Trek 4 again

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shakman has left sci-fi production to work on Fantastic Four for Marvel. To the MCU reboot for the superhero quartet has also been in the works for a long time. The schedules of both films were apparently incompatible.

Exactly what Shakman’s exit means for Star Trek 4 isn’t clear. The current status of development is difficult to foresee. Even stars like Chris Pine apparently didn’t know anything about the sci-fi sequel for a long time. The search for a replacement director will probably delay the theatrical release of the film.
