Times are changing. Different audience demands, filmmaker perspectives, the state of technology – they all bring change, but also new possibilities when old ideas are reissued. You can’t always make all fans of the original version happy. But sometimes you create a new beginning for another generation.
If you’re lucky like JJ Abrams, you can get on one like the original Enterprise smart, witty and great crew to count. His sci-fi new edition Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond, which has grown into a trilogy, revolves around a cast that breathes new life into a cult franchise. You can currently stream all three films on Netflix.
In the new Star Trek trilogy on Netflix, the crew of the Enterprise has to find each other in a completely new way
We turn back the clock. The USS Enterprise is still traveling through space and its unexplored expanses under the leadership of Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood). The hot-headed, rebellious Starfleet recruit James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) has yet to earn his laurels. At the same time, his heroic father’s legacy is breathing down his neck and building up pressure.
When the Romulan Nero (Eric Bana) appears and begins to carry out gruesome attacks on various home planets of the United Federation of Planets, the young crew of the Enterprise is mobilized. Kirk and his study buddy Pille (Karl Urban) join the team.
The impulsive man of hearts immediately clashes with the rational Spock (Zachary Quinto). He doesn’t particularly endear himself to his new colleague Uhura (Zoe Saldana). To get to the bottom of Nero’s plans and to secure the future of the Federationthe motley crew has to pull together and overcome their differences.

JJ Abrams’ Star Trek shines primarily thanks to its star cast and great characters
Disputes about timelines and future plans aside, JJ Abrams’ Star Trek trilogy is simply a successful new edition of a cult classic that takes advantage of one of the original’s greatest strengths. The result is Star Trek for a new generation, modernized – but with all hearts in the right place.
Not only does Abrams know exactly, the curiosity for the undiscovered is cleverly combined with a more action-oriented approach Movies worth seeing to connect. Above all, he knows that the focus of the series has always been the dynamics between the individual characters and the entire Enterprise crew.
Discussions about philosophical and moral standpoints only work if you enjoy listening to the characters. Had to do that new versions of at least a dozen iconic characters be found. And here the star-studded casting, all the playing styles and the charisma of the characters are simply 100% right.
More for fans:
Pine’s Kirk is wonderfully cunning, Quinto’s Spock manages the balancing act between emotion and cool logic perfectly. Urban is the grumpiness of the space doctor incarnate and Saldana carries all the values of the strong Uhura into a new era. Not to mention the charming new versions of supporting characters like Simon Pegg’s Scotty and Anton Yelchin’s Chekov. This is how a restart works.
If you’re in the mood for sci-fi action and want to get excited with this lovable group of different personalities, you can currently do so with the entire trilogy with a streaming subscription on Netflix.
