Richard Linklater is an absolutely exceptional director. He has already spent 12 years shooting his coming-of-age drama Boyhood. His most recent release on Netflix is ​​Apollo 10½: A Childhood in the Space Age, in which the experiences of a boy seem almost like science fiction to him. For his new project Merrily We Roll Along he has now found a great main cast, with whom he plans to work on the film for 20 years.

The film is based on the musical adaptation of a play from the 1930s. There, the successful Hollywood producer Franklin Shepard looks back on his career, which he began as a Broadway composer decades earlier. The story runs backwards, so to speak, from the present to the past.

Linklater wants to shoot scenes over and over again over the next 20 years for the film with the same cast. He has now found great actors for this, as reported by Gamesradar, among others. Starring Paul Mescal (Aftersun), Beanie Feldstein (Lady Bird) and Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect).

When is Merrily We Roll Along in cinemas?

If all goes well over the next 20 years, Merrily will be We Roll Along hit theaters around 2040. Linklater will be 82 years old at this point.
