Stockholm Syndrome is a psychological phenomenon that is primarily associated with hostage-taking. A victim builds in positive relationship to the person it is actually taking hostage. We have seen this motif countless times in film and television.
But what is the real story behind Stockholm Syndrome? With The Stockholm Story – Beloved Hostage, the film celebrates its free TV premiere today, which us kidnapped in 1973 and reopens the historical case. It features two big stars: Ethan Hawke (Before Midnight) and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus).
The Stockholm Story, starring Ethan Hawke and Noomi Rapace, follows a hostage drama that made history
Stockholm, 1973: The world was just fine when an inconspicuous man, Lars Nystrom (Ethan Hawke), unpacks a submachine gun in a bank and takes an employee, Bianca Lind (Noomi Rapace), hostage. Although she pushed the alarm button, over the course of the next few hours she sides with Nystrom.

Although The Stockholm Story – Beloved Hostage is based on true events, director and screenwriter Robert Budreau has some taken creative liberties, to dramaturgically prepare the story and turn it into a 92-minute thriller. So we are not dealing with a detailed re-enactment of the actual events from the history books in this film.
