The Stanley Cup champion has teamed with the NHL Players’ Association to help his alma mater, Tilbury Area elementary school, start a skating program by donating 50 new helmets, gloves and pairs of skates.

“We are incredibly grateful to Brandon Montour and the NHLPA for their generosity,” teacher Kristen Fenlon said in a statement. “This donation will make a significant difference in the lives of our students, providing them with the opportunity to experience the joy of skating.”

Montour, 30, attended the school from grades one to eight before his family moved to Ohsweken.

The Seattle Kraken blue-liner wanted to give back to the school. He chose to support a skating program after discussions with school officials.

“This donation not only provides essential equipment but also opens up new opportunities for LKDSB students to engage in physical activity and learn new skills on the ice,” said a statement from the school board.

Fenlon’s hard work and passion have been invaluable in launching the program, the board statement said. Retired board staffer LeeAnn Chamberlain will volunteer with the program after helping to initiate contact with Montour last year.

Montour won the Stanley Cup last season with the Florida Panthers. He then signed a seven-year, $50-million contract with the Kraken as a free agent in July.

Montour also played with the Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabers during his nine NHL seasons. He has 70 goals and 191 assists in 532 regular-season games.

The former Chatham-Kent AAA Cyclone had a career year in 2022-23 with 16-57-73 totals in 80 games. He tied for fifth in scoring among NHL defensemen.
