Standoff in Sarnia peacefully ends

Police seek publics help following robbery in Brights Grove

A 75-minute standoff in Sarnia Saturday evening with a wanted man ended peacefully, police say.

A man who was aware there was a warrant for his arrest locked himself inside a room at a residence in the area of Campbell Street and Whitmore Avenue, police said.

The man told police he had firearms and other weapons, but made no direct threats, police said.

The area was contained and portions of the streets were closed to ensure public safety, police said.

After negotiations, the man peacefully surrendered to police and was taken into custody at 7:02 pm, police said.

No firearms were located inside the residence and no new charges have been laid, police said.

Joshua Erdodi, 36, of Sarnia was arrested on a surety warrant, order of committal and brought to a corrections facility, police said.

A surety agrees to ensure an accused person released on bail abides by their bail conditions, but sureties can apply to the court to have their duties dismissed, police said.

When that happens, a justice issues an order for committal, for police to bring the accused person to a corrections facility for imprisonment, police said.

Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.

Erdodi was arrested in May on drug and weapon possession charges, and was also charged with flight from police
