Five hundred steelworkers on strike at the Chevron oil refinery were forced out of the plant and replaced by non-union employees who took control of the refinery operations.

The 500 steelworkers expelled from the factory went on strike to demand a 5% wage increase. Life has indeed become very expensive in the region. The cost of living in San Francisco is the highest in the United States. Housing, electricity, water, internet, gasoline, everything is more expensive there. Today, California has the highest fuel prices, with a liter of gasoline coming in at almost six dollars.

These metallurgists are also asking for jobs, because the workweeks of the workers turn, on average, over 60 hours, or even more. But for the direction of Chevron, these claims are unjustified because they go well beyond what was concluded within the framework of the national agreement.

Last month, the American refiners indeed concluded a national agreement which provides for a salary increase of 12% over four years for nearly thirty thousand employees.
