BREUKELEN – A 40-year-old man who could not let go of his ex-girlfriend in Breukelen and who continued to attack her has been sentenced to hospital admission. In addition, the court imposed eight months in prison, of which six months were suspended with a probation period of three years. He is not allowed to have contact with the woman during that period and must stay away from Breukelen.

The man continued to harass his ex-girlfriend after several stop calls, contact and location bans. He also said in court two weeks ago that he does not want to let her go. He also continued to resist admission and treatment in a clinic.

Intimidating and worrying

The court finds it proven that the man “impressed himself in various ways and in an intrusive way on his ex-girlfriend”, while it should have been clear to him that she no longer wanted contact. He didn’t care about that and only thought about himself, the judge said.

He is also charged that he continued to do so after a contact and location ban was imposed and that he even entered her house without her permission. That behavior was particularly intimidating, according to the court. The fact that he indicated during the hearing that he still wanted to continue with his ex-girlfriend is worrying, according to the court.

Vicious circle

According to the probation service, it is necessary to break the vicious circle in which the stalker finds itself. He has no job, often sleeps on his parents’ couch, uses drugs, has debts and psychological problems. His father says he prefers not to take him home anymore. Admission to a clinic is therefore necessary, according to the probation service. The court agrees.

The judges also take into account that the man was previously convicted of stalking another partner. He was also convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in Breukelen. A suspended sentence has been converted by the court into a community service order that he must now carry out. Because he has already been in custody for two months, he can now be admitted quickly for treatment.

If the man does not agree with the verdict, he has two weeks to appeal.
