– We have two stair factories and both have low occupancy, so we will end operations in Norberg and move part of the production to the factory in Herrljunga, says Stefan Ohlsson, CEO of Strängbetong.
Why not the other way around?
– We have of course done an extensive analysis and there are several different factors, among other things we know that it is easier to start up production in Norberg, should it become relevant.
The plan is to shut down the factory, which mainly manufactures the Forssellstrappan brand, at the end of March next year.
Could there be talk of offering employees to move with them to Herrljunga?
– We currently have no vacancies in other operations, but if there is interest among the staff to move, we generally look at it positively and if there are opportunities, we will of course investigate whether it can be resolved.
The warning is not the first thing Strangbetong has done in Norberg. Just a year ago, there was talk of halving the workforce.
– We were around 70 people and reduced by about a third then, so we have gradually adapted our capacity to the prevailing market.
