Jönsson, based in Malmö, has among other things an SM gold in the discus in 2005 to look back on. For the past twelve years, he has been training shot putter Wictor Petersson, and in this role has also had a close collaboration with Hafsteinsson.
“Taking over from Vésteinn is of course special and a task that I feel very humble about. What they have built in Växjö is something unique that we have never had before in Sweden. At the same time, it feels really cool to take over two world stars and build something fantastic here in Malmö,” says Jönsson in a press release.
The other day it became clear that Hafsteinsson’s third mentor, the discus thrower Simon Pettersson, is moving home to his hometown of Sixarby to be coached by Upsala IF’s Henrik Wennberg.
