Compost as a soil conditioner
In the StadsWormerij, thousands of compost worms convert vegetable, fruit and food waste into vermicompost, excrement from the worms. It concerns food waste from catering establishments, supermarkets, offices, caterers and, hopefully, from Amersfoort households in the future. “A third of our organic waste in the household still ends up in the gray container for residual waste and is then unfortunately incinerated,” explains van Groningen at News square 33. “It will never return to the soil.”
