Stability Pact, Mattarella to the EU: Yes to rigor but without “obtuse rules”

Stability Pact Mattarella to the EU Yes to rigor but

(Finance) – “Yes to rigorous budget rules, but the rigor must not be obtuse and blind, but has growth as its objective, taking into account phenomena such as the slowdown of the Chinese economy and the consequences of the war in Ukraine”. The Head of State Sergio Mattarella intervenes in his own way and decisively on the European budget rules and therefore on the ffundamental battle on the reform of the Stability Pact.

The occasion is the long conversation with the German president Frank Walter Steinmeier with whom he has ease of dialogue and full harmony. The President of the Republic cannot say more but in the frankness that has characterized his talks with his “friend” Steinmeier for years one understands the concern of the Head of State for a negotiation which is approaching its deadline (by the end of the year if no an agreement or an extension the old Stability Pact returns) in a climate of mistrust.

And then some interpretations filter out about his words which are certainly well appreciated by the Meloni government which from the beginning has been fighting against a rigorism, preciselyblind.

The President of the Republic takes it upon himself to explain Italy’s reasons to the penalty takers with the German president who appears to agree and adds how the friendship between Rome and Berlin is “an insurance against nationalism and separatism, against everything that creates divisions and uncertainty.” There was also talk of migrant dossiers which will take place with a joint visit to a reception centre
