The cabinet’s climate agreement was a direct reason for Staatsbosbeheer to create more new forest area nationally and the municipality welcomes this: “Trees are characteristic of the green municipality of Utrechtse Heuvelrug. They beautify the streets and avenues and are a food source and place of residence for many animals. They provide cooling in the summer, mark the seasons and absorb CO2, odors and polluting gases.” The plan still must be approved by the council.
