St. Thomas City Council Looking to Fill Vacancy After Tara McCaulley Steps Down

A St. Thomas City Councillor Elected in 2022 is Vacating Her Seat.

Tara McCAULLEY IS LEAVING her position, The City Said Tuesday in A News Release, Opening Up a Council Seat for Another Candidates. The Municipal Act Gives The City Two Ways to Fill The Vacancy, St. Thomas Mayor Joe Preston Said.

“Obviously, A General Election or (by) Appointing,” He Said. “COUCIL CAN SUMPLICALLY APPOINENT ANYONE WHO Fits the Rules of Being A Councillor, and we can choose that way.”

PRESTON SAID IT TOO EARLY TO PREDICT A TIMELINE FOR FILLING THE VACANCY.

“Over this weekend, the sure, as I run into Other Councilors, We’ll Talk about What’s Best,” Preston Said.

He expressly appreciated for McCaulley’s work as a coucillor.

“She has work tirelessly to ensure our city is a place where people can grow, thrive and feel at home,” Preston Said. “While we will miss her contributions on coucil, her legacy will continue to inspire and impact St. Thomas for Years to Come.”

McCAULLEY WASN’T AVAILABLE FOR HOW TUESDAY, But PRESTON SAID SHE HAD BEGUN A JOB AS A LOANS Manager for the Elgin Business Resource Center, and Working that position Along with Her Role on Council was Time Consuming.

“WE’A NOT LOSING TARA FROM OUR Community in A Field She’s Absolutely GREAT AT,” PRESTON SAID. “I’m Sad to Lose Her from the Greatest Council I’ve Ever Seen, (But) She’ll Still be Around.”

As a Councillor, McCAULLEY Contributed to Several Committees, Including as a Member of the Downtown Development Board, Police Service Board and St. Thomas Public Library Board, The City Said.

Before Her Tenure on Council, McCaulley Served in “Key Roles” in the City of St. Thomas, Starting AS A Business Advisor, then Manager of Business Development and Entrepreneurship, The City Said.
