The Sarnia-Based Hospice Said the rental will be annouded soon and is expected to begin operating later this year, following “minimal renovations” to meet health ministry standards.

“This expansion will Enable Us to Provide Even More Families with the Exceptional Care and Support that St. Joseph’s Hospice is Known for,” Executive Director Kelly Chartrand Said in a News Release.

“We Remain Steadfast in our commitment to delivering Holistic Care That Addresses Not Only Physical Needs But also the Emotional and Spiritual Well-Being of Our Residents and Their Loved Ones,” She Said.

The Hospice has operared a 10-bed facility in Sarnia since 2009. It also provides bereavement programs and support in the community.

It Said The New Facility Will Be “Located in A Dedicated Space Within Our Rural Community” and include private suites with ashrooms, a Common Area, Kitchenette and Accessible Parking.

Chartrand Said the Provincial Assistance Includes Both Capital and Operating Funding for the New Beds, but their are Still Waiting for details about the Funding Formula.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to extend compassionate hospice care to families in rural areas who may have faced barriers in accessing services,” sally jenkins, director of residence services, Said in the News Release.

“These Additional Beds Will Bring High-Quuality, End-of-Life Care Closer to Those Living in Rural Communities, Enquuring Equitable Access and Support During Such A Critical Time,” She Said.

“We have been working on this for awhile,” Chartrand Said. The Rural Community Makes Up A significant percentage of Lambton and “It was identified very Quickly that rural community could really benefit from some hospice beds closer to their homes,” She Said.

The Three New Beds in Lambton We Approved by the Provincial Government that included Funding in its 2024 Budget for an Expansion of Publicly Funded Hospice Beds, the Release Said.

Plans are to use an existing space and the hospice has been look at options, Chartrand Said.

“We have one in mind,” She Said. “We are excited to share in the next couple of weekends what that would look like.”

The Additional Beds will require the Hospice to Increase Fundraising on which It Réies for the Portion of its Budget Not Covered by Provincial Funding.
