St. Andrew’s United Church will present a concert this weekend celebrating the 100-year legacy of acclaimed opera composer Giacomo Puccini.

Called Nessun Dorma, after one of Puccini’s most famous arias, the program will be performed on Saturday at 7 pm in the St. Andrew’s sanctuary.
“The program promises a captivating blend of live music and insightful narration that will bring Puccini’s artistry and influence to life,” stated a release from the church.
“This is an evening for all, opera enthusiasts and those who want to discover the beauty and timeless relevance of Puccini’s work.”
Guided by St. Andrew’s director of music, Devon Hansen, the concert will feature a selection of Puccini’s pieces performed by a lineup of vocalists including Andrew Derynck and Colin Bell, members of Chatham’s Three Tenors, as well as Erin Armstrong, Brianna DeSantis, and Alyssa Epp from Abridged Opera.

These artists will bring Puccini characters to life, from the tragic Cio-Cio-San of Madama Butterfly to the spirited lovers of La Bohème.
More than just a concert, Nessun Dorma incorporates narrative segments that will give the audience a deeper understanding of Puccini’s creative journey.
Through these narratives, attendees will learn about the significant people in Puccini’s life, such as his collaborator Luigi Illica, the legendary tenor Enrico Caruso, and conductor Arturo Toscanini, who influenced his art or were influenced by him.
The program will take the audience through the evolution of Puccini’s musical style and legacy, exploring why his work continues to resonate with audiences worldwide, a century after his passing.
Doors open at 6:30 pm Donations ($20 a person is suggested) will be accepted at the door and will go toward the music program at St. Andrew’s. All are welcome.
