Sram would develop a motor for electric mountain bikes

The information is tenuous but it is potentially enormous. Present at the opening round of the Enduro World Series at Tweed Valley in Scotland, the site pinkbike noticed a prototype of electric mountain bike which seems equipped with a Sram engine. The bike in question is a Nukeproof Megawatt which is in principle mounted with a motor Shimano EP8.

The photo posted by Pinkbike shows an unmarked motor block that differs in format and mounting points from the Shimano mount. According to the site, this prototype was seen near the Nukeproof and Sram stands. Sram has been rumored for several years to enter the electric market with a powertrain that would rival those of Shimano.

The presence of such a prototype on an EWS-E event makes total sense to test its capabilities. Asked by Pinkbike, Sram declined to comment. Case to follow.
