Squid Game: season 2 explodes Netflix audiences

Squid Game season 2 explodes Netflix audiences

Released at the end of 2024, season 2 of Squid Game explodes the competition and achieves the feat of achieving a better start than the first season.

The phenomenon Squid Game will it eventually slow down? While the first season released in 2021 had already ranked first among the most viewed non-English-speaking original series on Netflix (and even among the most viewed series in general), the second season has already set out to explode all the counters and has just confirm the popular phenomenon.

On the program for this season 2: Gi-Hun returns to participate in the Squid Game with a new objective, very different from all those hoping to win the 45.6 billion won. He then plunges back into the survival game and will have to face new deadly and deadly tests.

Released on December 26, 2024 during the end-of-year holidays, the sequel to the Korean series exploded on all counts and was logically positioned at the top of the most viewed series of the moment on the platform. streaming.

With 68 million views for its first 4 days, Squid Game season 2 is therefore off to a better start than the first season, but also better than other flagship Netflix series, such as season 3 of Bridgerton (45.1 million views) or You season 4 (23.3 million views). Its start is also better than Wednesday season 1 or Stranger Things season 4. The question now is whether the success will continue over time, or whether the audiences will slow down as the weeks go by.

But is this the end of the series? Fans of Squid Game can rejoice, because a season 3 is already in the pipeline. Be careful though, creator Hwang Dong Hyuk wanted to put an end to the story at the end of these next episodes. This will therefore be the end of the series.

While we had to wait three years between the end of season 1 and the start of season 2, the sequel will indeed see the light of day in the coming months: in fact, during the Lucca Comics and Games Festival, which was held last October in Italy, the creator of the series confirmed that the last episodes were already in the post-production phase! To Variety, he also confirmed that the end of the series will be released “in the summer or fall of 2025”. Fans’ patience will therefore quickly be rewarded.

SynopsisA very special survival game is organized in Korea: whoever survives can win 45.6 billion won (approximately 32 million euros). 450 people, living in precarious conditions, are recruited and try their luck in deadly variations of children’s games. Squid Game is a Netflix series not recommended for under 16s.

Squid Game is a real success on Netflix. The South Korean series depicts violent children’s games, often resulting in death. The success is such that many children have heard of Squid Game, which is however prohibited for children under 16. In the playgrounds, some reproduce certain tests from the series, to the point of alarming the Ministry of National Education: on LCI, Jean-Michel Blanquer calls for the “responsibility” of everyone, so that the youngest do not not watch the series. “It is obvious that there is the responsibility of the platforms (…), we have seen that it is normally prohibited for those under 16, perhaps we should consider measures to allow parental control for true on such matters.

As a reminder, however, parental control does exist on the streaming platform, in the Account tab > Profile and parental control > Access restriction. Jean-Michel Blanquer also called for parental responsibility: “we will achieve nothing if we do not have a commitment from parents to check more about what is happening,” he also said. “Don’t leave children alone in front of screens.” School directors and college principals were alerted to the phenomenon, and some parents were therefore able to receive messages regarding this series.

In France, Squid Game is causing controversy in schools: children are reproducing games from the Netflix series. Therefore, the question arises of the age limit for viewing this South Korean program. The streaming platform mentions directly on the Squid Game page that this content is reserved for people aged 16 and over, due to its violence. So, how can we prevent children and those under 16 from watching the series?

Apart from youth accounts, it is possible to set up parental controls on your Netflix account. Simply go to Account > Profile and Parental Controls > Access Restriction. You can then change the age category (content that does not fall within the age limit imposed will no longer be accessible) or target specific content that should not appear, like Squid Game for example. Please note, if you have several profiles that your children can visit, you should impose these restrictions on all profiles.
