Spring cleaning: Hazardous waste registration days begins March 20

Norfolk County residents will soon be able to safely get rid of old aerosol cans, batteries and other waste.

Registration for Household Hazardous Waste Days begins at noon on March 20 and is required for those wishing to participate. To reserve a time visit norfolkcounty.ca/HHW and follow the information on the pop-up.

Collection of hazardous waste takes place in on April 20 at 591 Norfolk St. South from 9 am to 2 pm and at 340 Argyle Ave. Delhi, on May 25 from 9 am to 1 pm

Other examples of hazardous waste include household cleaners and disinfectants, fluorescent tubes and bulbs, propane tanks (20 lbs) and cylinders, gasoline, oil and oil filters, pharmaceuticals, syringes, paints, varnishes and stains, pesticides and insecticides and pool chemicals.

Items that will not be accepted include any hazardous material in containers larger than 20L (five gallons), agricultural, commercial or industrial waste, PCBs, explosives and radioactive waste.

Norfolk County no longer collects electronic waste at household hazardous waste days. However, three areas businesses – Staples Business Depot, 17 Queensway W. Simcoe, Norfolk Disposal Services, 811 Old Highway 24, Waterford and Staples Business Depot, 200 Broadway St., Tillsonburg – do accept e-waste including televisions.
