The biggest problem is in the provinces with high sandy soils. These are North Brabant, Limburg, Gelderland, Drenthe and Overijssel. Water supply from rivers or the IJsselmeer to these sandy soils is difficult, they are almost entirely dependent on rainfall to maintain the level of ground and surface water.
