Want to listen to the live interview of your favorite star or a live concert on Spotify? This will soon be possible in the app you use to listen to music or podcasts. Indeed, the publisher has just announced the arrival of the live audio function in its application.
This feature already existed, but you had to use the Spotify Greenroom app, formerly known as Locker Room. Spotify purchased this app in March 2021, then relaunched it as Greenroom in June 2021.
But this “green room” (term used in shows to indicate the room where artists wait before entering the stage) will change its name and become Spotify Live, to emphasize the aspect of live listening.
However, there are going to be differences between the two apps. The most important concerns interactivity during a live broadcast. It will only be possible on Spotify Live. Users of the main application will only be able to listen to the program, without being able to intervene.
In addition, the function will only affect certain “flagship” programs in the Spotify app, for example Off the Record with DJ Akademiks. The publisher indicates that independent creators will have to use the Spotify Live app for live streaming of their programs.
It remains to be seen whether the name change will allow Spotify Live to find its place in a gloomy market, deserted by users since the end of confinement. This desertion has thus greatly harmed Clubhouse, one of the best known apps in this field.
