Spotify is magic or almost: it is possible to control playback on a computer from a smartphone with the mobile application… or vice versa. Here’s how!
The Spotify music streaming platform is available on many devices: computers and smartphones, but also speakers, connected watches, game consoles and car entertainment systems. The complete list can be consulted on the page Spotify Everywhere. While it is possible to be logged into Spotify on multiple devices at the same time, users can only listen to their music in one place at a time. Playing a song on one device automatically pauses playback on another medium in use. Function Spotify Connect also allows controlling the desktop application with a smartphone, or controlling another device from a computer.
Control Spotify from a smartphone
► Make sure that your computer and your smartphone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and that your Spotify application is up to date on both devices.
► Log in to your Spotify account on both computer and mobile app.
► Open Spotify on mobile: the application automatically detects playback on another medium.
► Press the green button Continue.
► Use the Spotify control buttons on your smartphone as usual. Playback continues on your computer and the name of the device in use is listed in green under the title of the song being played.
Control Spotify from computer
► Make sure that your computer and the other device (speaker, console, etc.) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and that your Spotify application is up to date on all media.
► Log in to your Spotify account on the devices you are currently using.
► On the computer version of Spotify, click on the arrow next to your name at the top right of the interface then on Preferences.
► Section Preferences opens. Under the heading Devicesclick on Menu open devices.
► A dialog box Connect to a device opens at the bottom right of the Spotify interface and displays the list of available devices. Click on the name of the desired device to continue reading elsewhere.
► When playback continues on another medium, a green banner appears at the bottom of the Spotify window and indicates the name of the device in use.
