ATHLETICS Femke Bol is one of the candidates to be elected European athlete of the year. The Amersfoort native is among the ten nominees for whom online voting is possible, the European Athletics Federation announced.
Bol has been a winner of prizes and records this year. She won two gold medals at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow and also set a world record there in the 400 metres (49.17). She also won two gold medals at the European Outdoor Championships in Rome and won three Olympic medals at the Paris Games: gold in the mixed 4×400 metres, silver in the women’s 4×400 metres and bronze in the 400 metres hurdles. She ended the season by winning the Diamond League. She could become the first woman to win the title three times. (Friday September 19)
