TO SKATE Merijn Scheperkamp once again performed disappointingly in the second 500 meters of the World Cup races in Quebec. The skater from Skating Club Zeist finished eighteenth, almost a second behind winner Jordan Stolz. A day earlier, Bart Hoolwerf narrowly missed out on the podium at the mass start. The 26-year-old from Eemdijke finished fourth in the sprint after sixteen laps. The victory went to the Japanese Shomu Sasaki. Italian Andrea Giovannini only needed fifth place to claim the overall victory in the rankings. Hoolwerf came third in the rankings.
Wesly Dijs set the fifth fastest time in the 1500 meters. De Soester recorded 1.46.25. The American Jordan Stolz won in a time of 1.44.01, a track record. In the first 500 meters, Merijn Scheperkamp, member of the Zeist skating club, set the disappointing sixteenth time. (Sunday February 4)
