TO SKATE Skater Bart Hoolwerf finished just off the podium in the mass start at the World Cup in Quebec. The 26-year-old skater from Eemdijk finished fourth in the sprint after sixteen laps. The victory went to the Japanese Shomu Sasaki. Italian Andrea Giovannini only needed fifth place to claim the overall victory in the rankings. Hoolwerf came third in the rankings.
Wesly Dijs set the fifth fastest time in the 1500 meters. De Soester recorded 1.46.25. The American took the win in a time of 1.44.01, a track record. In the first 500 meters, Merijn Scheperkamp, member of the Zeist skating club, set the disappointing sixteenth time. (Saturday February 3)
