Spooky fallow deer in Oskarshamn – see the unique pictures

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In Oskarshamn, Lukas Vågros has managed to capture something as unusual as a white fallow deer on film. A very rare animal that some call a ghost animal. But according to Tom Arnbom at WWF, who commented on the unusual phenomenon in Aftonbladet, the animal is not albino. It is a half-albino. It has little pigment. Unusual pigmentation The white form should not be mistaken for so-called albinistic which typically has red eyes and completely lacks pigmentation. Albinism is as rare in fallow deer as other cervids and thus belongs to the exceptions. The white form of fallow deer is also not born white, but sand or cream colored with pale spots and becomes whiter with increasing age and with each coat change. For some animals, it may take many years for the final milky white color to fully develop. These white animals have normal colored brown eyes but slightly less pigmented and paler hooves and snout than the normal colored ones. The fallow deer can vary widely in appearance and goes from white to dark brown and the latter is often listed as black. The best-known red-brown form with white dots over the back and flanks is the natural color variant and the others are the result of previous targeted breeding in captivity, writes the Swedish Hunting Association.
