On Sunday, Russia added Meta’s spokesperson Andy Stone to a wanted list – without specifying why.
Stone is now on the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ list of wanted persons.
Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year, the country has been cracking down on social media and media freedom.
In October of last year, Russia decided to put Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, on its list of “terrorist and extremist organizations”.
Facebook and Instagram have been blocked in Russia, and can only be accessed via VPN. X, formerly Twitter, and Russian independent media are also blocked.
