“The Shark”, which came out in 1975, depicts how a great white shark attacks people in an American coastal town. The film is said to have inspired thousands of anglers in the United States to set out to catch and kill sharks. The myth of the predator that attacks and kills people as a kind of revenge created a “collective wave of testosterone” in the anglers, according to George Burgess, director of the shark research program in Gainesville in the United States, among others.

Steven Spielberg says with a twinkle in his eye, but with an underlying seriousness, that he fears the sharks are “angry” at him because of the hordes of “crazy fishermen” who were inspired to hunt them after seeing the film.

75-year-old Steven Spielberg is currently in the news with the film “The Fabelmans”, which will have its Swedish cinema premiere in February.
