Spider-Man: Miles Morales PC review
Marvel’s Spider-Man, which came out with the PC version in the summer when we were without games, was a good opportunity for both players without a console and those who wanted to play with a higher quality visual on PC. Marvel’s Spider-Man, which includes both the original game and DLC packages and was presented to PC players in a great way, received very good reviews. Now it’s time for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which is the sequel of the game and one of the PS5’s debut games!
Big Power Little Hero
Set after the main story, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales tells the story of the new Spider-Man who learns to act as a hero under Peter Parker’s tutoring. I did a detailed review for the PlayStation version of the game, so I don’t plan to touch the story part much. A brief mention will suffice.
Miles, who gained his spider powers after the events in the main game and trained with Peter Parker, causes Rhino and many criminals to escape as a result of a “small” mistake, and it’s up to the spider duo to gather around. Then Peter leaves the city to us by saying “Come on, I ran away on vacation” and goes. Peter, who seems extremely young in a new and meaningless way, does not neglect to say “I screwed up too, you have to learn by doing the job”.
The story puts us in the middle of a battle between a seemingly flawless big company boss and Tinkerer’s hi-tech group operating against him. The inevitable fate of Spider-Man, “everyone crush the spider first”, also happens to Miles, and we embark on an average of 10 hours of adventure.
A Brighter Adventure
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales lets us play with Miles, who has a little more power than Peter Parker. Thanks to Miles’ new powers, we can use different abilities based on bioelectricity and invisibility. These abilities come in ways that will come in handy both in combat and when traveling around.
As I said in my previous review, I don’t use stealth features unless absolutely necessary, I used Miles’ invisibility ability more to get out of trouble when the number of enemies increased. Their bioelectric power is spectacular, both visually and functionally. You can use it to lift the enemies up and hit the ground with electricity, to hit them by transmitting electricity over the net, or to hurl yourself a little higher while walking around.
Miles Morales’ puzzles are simpler and faster to solve than the boring and repetitive sequences of the original game. The stealth missions where we control the boring side characters from the game are completely gone. This is a huge plus! I can’t even imagine 10 hours of gameplay and these tasks anyway. The tempo almost never drops.
We are traveling in New York, which is more snowy and keeps the spirit of Christmas alive as of the previous period. Apart from the story missions, there are side missions you can do, collectibles from the environment and crimes to be stopped. Thanks to these, it is possible to unlock new abilities and costumes. If you want to try to get everything, it is possible to spend about 16 – 18 hours. The difficulty level will of course also affect this time.
I played the game with both keyboard and mouse and DualSense controller and I can say that it has a very enjoyable gameplay in both. It may take some time to get used to the positions of the keys on the keyboard, which also has an effect on my getting used to playing with the remote. DualSense, which I use by connecting it with a cable, gives the same performance as PlayStation 5. Both the Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Trigger features are active, and the sounds coming from the controller while you’re net-casting are also pretty nice. If you have the opportunity, give it a try, it makes traveling much more enjoyable by throwing a net.
Visuality and Performance
We know from previous games that PlayStation has done very well in bringing exclusive games to PC. So, can Miles Morales continue this success? Definitely!
The game looks absolutely great. As someone who has reviewed the PlayStation 4 version and played the PlayStation 5 version as well, I have seen firsthand how much better an already-looking game can look with PC support. Christmas-era New York is under snow, celebratory decorations sparkle, the purple lights of enemies using Tinkerer’s toys and Miles’ electricity are all the more impressive.
I played the game comfortably at the highest settings on a PC with an RTX 2060 graphics card and AMD Ryzen 7 2700X processor, with 24 GB of RAM. I had the opportunity to test the performance in both 2K and 1080p resolutions. The FPS, which hovers between 20 and 40 at the highest settings in 2K resolution, reached up to 60 with the settings in the middle, it does not support higher than a screen I already use for the console. In 1080p resolution, I got high FPS without any problems at the highest settings.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was a game that stood out with its Ray Tracing features, and it’s worth seeing how it uses RTX features in the PC version. At 1080p resolution, with both RTX Reflections and RTX Shadows turned on together, I observed an FPS of 26-40 in my trials at Very High settings. Not worth the bother considering I was using a Playstation 4 when I first played the game. I managed to get higher values by lowering the settings, but I don’t have the proper requirements for a steady 60 FPS anyway.
Of course, these are the FPS values I get with the support of DLSS technology. The game also has other options like AMD FSR 2.1, Intel XeSS and IGTI. In particular, IGTI increases the FPS value noticeably, but I did not prefer it because it offers visually sharper and more eye-catching graphics.
Just like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Miles Morales’ optimization has been very good. The game, which offers ultra wide screen support, does not have any FPS lock, the limits are as much as the PC features you have. Moreover, even the lowest graphics settings of the game look pretty smooth, which shows that it is a game that everyone can reach and play.
Conclusion
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales did a great job on the PC version, the game looks beautiful, it’s a game that deserves praise and high ratings as a very enjoyable add-on pack, well optimized to run on almost any PC. The biggest issue it has is that it’s being sold as a full game, not an add-on pack. I have to make my comment accordingly.
Everything I said in the previous review is valid here as well, if this game were an additional package and introduced and priced accordingly, it would be a production that I can recommend to everyone with peace of mind. However, for a game that has the same price tag ($50) as Marvel’s Spider-Man released last summer, the content and innovations it offers are quite weak, and the game time is very short.
If you love Marvel’s Spider-Man and want more, it’s the ideal game for you, but maybe better if you wait for a discount. In Turkey Steam and Epic Games The price of the game, which is sold on the internet, is determined as 499 TL. Considering the new game prices in our country, it seems acceptable, but it should not be forgotten that the original game is also at the same price and is richer in terms of the content it offers. The choice is entirely up to you.
