We have long known about the arrival of the next Avengers films. But what about Spider-Man 4? At this point it’s no longer a secret that the film is coming. Sony has nevertheless left for a surprisingly long timeto announce the Marvel sequel with a specific theatrical release.
But now we have certainty.
When does Spider-Man 4 start with Tom Holland?
As Variety reports, Spider-Man 4 opens on July 24, 2026 in the cinema. For now, this is only the US launch. However, it can be assumed that the film will be released in Germany soon. Maybe even a few days earlier, as has been the case with various Marvel blockbusters in the past.
The timing of the theatrical release is causing a stir because of one thing in particular: the film opens just three months after Avengers: Doomsday – the return of Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This time, however, he doesn’t play Iron Man, but the eponymous villain: Doctor Doom.
This could result in a very interesting tension. Last but not least, Tony Stark, previously played by Downey Jr., acted as Peter Parker’s mentor in the previous MCU films. Tony was there when Peter was caught. Peter was there when Tony sacrificed himself for the universe in the fight against Thanos.
How does young Peter Parker feel when he finds out that the face he trusts suddenly belongs to someone in Avengers: Doomsday? who wants to destroy the world? With its theatrical release following the fifth Avengers adventure, Spider-Man 4 occupies an extremely exciting position in the MCU timeline.
All upcoming MCU films at a glance:
Until recently, the Blade film with Mahershala Ali was on the list. However, Marvel and Disney have now canceled the launch planned for November 2025.
Is Robert Downey Jr. in Spider-Man 4?
It is currently unclear whether Downey Jr. will appear in Spider-Man 4. Although there have already been various rumors in this direction, the ex-Avengers to date only set for two MCU films: Avengers: Doomsday and the sequel Avengers: Secret Wars, which hit the big screen a year later.
In addition, many fans will be wondering what will happen to them other Peter Parkers has become. The Multiverse saga is not over yet. Especially after the multiverse success of Deadpool & Wolverine, the door should be wide open for further MCU appearances by Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man 1-3) and Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man 1-2).
Spider-Man 4 announces itself with many unanswered questions. One thing is certain: Spider-Man 4 will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who has already directed a Marvel film, namely Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Now he is following in the footsteps of Jon Watts, who has directed all of Holland’s previous Spideys.
