“Spermageddon” is called “‘Inside Out’ for adults”

Anyone who searches for “Spermageddon” will probably get it up articles about a meta-study from 2017 that sperm production in the Western world has fallen significantly in recent decades (the study has later questioned).

When the German distribution company Square one entertainment bought the Norwegian film “Spermageddon” thought the buyer that he bought a heavy documentary about this declining male fertility. But that was not the case.

Horror director and children’s filmmaker

“Spermageddon” takes place inside a scrotum where the two sperm protagonists try to get to the egg. At the same time, we get to follow teenagers Lisa and Jens, who met on a cabin trip and are about to have sex for the first time.

The film is made by Tommy Wirkola, whose “Dead Snow” series about zombie Nazis gave him a ticket to Hollywood, where he made the Santa horror “Violent night” (2022) and Rasmus Sivertsen, among other things.

“Wants to demystify”

The latter is known for more child-friendly works such as “Klas Klättermus and the other animals in Hackebackeskogen” (2016) and “Folk och rövare i Kamomillastad” (2022).

– We want to demystify sex and above all sex the first time, says Rasmus Sivertsen to Kulturnyheterna.

Premiere next year

The film will not officially premiere in Norway until January 2025, but since its premiere at a French animation festival, it has attracted a lot of attention in the American industry press, where it is expected to reach cult status.
