Speeding, weapons and drugs in traffic controls

Every year, the police carry out traffic weeks to take a closer look at things like speed, sobriety, professional traffic and crime on the road.

Between August 14 and 20, the police conducted a national traffic week with a focus on speed.

The authority carried out speed checks in areas where many unprotected road users move, such as near schools or in the city centre.

The police in the Mitt region, which includes the counties of Gävleborg, Uppsala and Västmanland, reported that around 1,000 people were speeding in the region during week 33, of which about a third were in the range of 6-9 km/h over the speed limit.

During the analysis, 30 drug offences, three weapons and three wanted persons were also discovered, according to the police.

“Even criminals drive their children to school, and traffic offenses are often a good way to find other crimes,” says Conny Salestedt, coordinator for traffic in Region Mitt, in a press release.
