Spectacular fishing derby ends in a draw

BUNSCHOTEN-SPAKENBURG – At a packed Westmaat in Bunschoten-Spakenburg, the derby between IJsselmeervogels and Spakenburg ended in a 2-2 draw. Due to the corona pandemic, it was the first meeting between the Reds and the Blues since October 12, 2019 and the first under artificial light.

Spakenburg started furiously and immediately had a great chance in the first minute. However, a shot by Wimilio Vink was stopped by Jaimy Schaap. Still, the Reds struck first. In the 7th minute Danny van den Meiracker scored 1-0 in a masterly way. Daniël van Son served the attacker with a high cross at the 2nd post, which suddenly popped him out of the air into the roof of the goal.

But it didn’t stop with the goal of the former Spakenburg player. It was almost even before half time. Sanny Monteiro was completely free after a corner by Vince Gino Dekker, but has a poor header. The ball went wide of the goal of IJsselmeervogels keeper Jaimy Schaap. It was still 1-1 on the stroke of half-time. Ravelino Junte poked the ball in after a cross by Vince Gino Dekker.

Just before half-time, Spakenburg even seemed to take the lead, but top scorer Floris van der Linden made hands.

Heerings serious injury causes long interruption

Both teams got off to a sloppy start in the second half. For Kai Heerings, the derby came to an end in the 55th minute. The defender of IJsselmeervogels unfortunately collided with Van der Linden’s knee and broke several ribs. The game was then stopped for minutes while waiting for an ambulance.

Without the routine in the defense of IJsselmeervogels, Spakenburg seemed to give a second blow immediately after the restart. Vink shot the ball into the goal, but the offside flag went up.

This was the time to beat the Reds

Spakenburg trainer Chris de Graaf

Christos Ibrahim almost scored a goal for the home team out of nowhere. He almost finished a bounce from Mike van de Laar with a beautiful bicycle kick. Goalkeeper Leon ter Wielen saved with his fingertips. After that, the match became even.

Wonderful final phase

Still, it was Spakenburg that took the lead after two disallowed hits. Wilmilio Vink shot the ball hard behind Schaap ten minutes before the end. IJsselmeervogels did not give in yet. From the kick-off, substitute Steven Sánchez Angulo made it 2-2. It ushered in a glorious end to the derby. Van der Linden was close to a new Spakenburg lead, but Schaap stopped his header. IJsselmeervogels almost took the win.

Van Lopik misses for both goals

In stoppage time Hero van Lopik almost worked the ball into his own goal after a tight free kick, but Ter Wielen was able to save. The same one from Lopik almost hit the target shortly afterwards. His shot exploded at the IJsselmeervogels crossing.

Van Lopik spoke of two lost points for Spakenburg immediately after the game. “I thought for a while that I would step off the field as the hero, but unfortunately the ball went against the bar. Yes, I could have just made the winning one for IJsselmeervogels. Fortunately that did not happen. Still I think we had should win. It was fighting football tonight.”

Tough evening for Sheep

Jaimy Schaap had a rough evening. He played with a torn abdominal muscle. “If it hadn’t been possible I wouldn’t have played. I deliberately played without pain relief. I didn’t want to run the risk of tearing everything off. Derby or not, my health comes first.” The goalkeeper hadn’t had much sleep either. “I had a course at the KNVB last night and this morning I was on the market early again. But it didn’t stand in my way.”

Spakenburg coach Chris de Graaf was not happy with the rejected goals. “The second in particular was not right. After that you still come to 2-1. Then I thought the loot was in. This was really the moment to beat IJsselmeervogels. I am very disappointed. Fortunately, there will be another game .”
