There is a small insect that contributes to the spread of up to 200 species of plants in the Netherlands. Luc: “Everywhere you see spring bloomers like crocuses coming up in the grass. These plants have seeds and those seeds have a sweet ball on them. You call that sweet appendage ant bread. And that is what the ants come to. They grab them in a moment.” one seed, drag it to their nest, cut off the ant bread there and feed it to their larvae. They throw the seed outside their nest again because they can’t do much with it. And that’s where the new crocus grows. Ants in your garden become often seen as difficult, but leave them alone because they are really important for the nature in your garden.”
