Spanish nurses move to Sweden for higher pay

In large parts of the EU, there is a race between countries to get hold of the right skills.

Among the hardest to come by in all of Europe are nurses who are in short supply pretty much everywhere. But the fact that they can now have even greater opportunities to move between jobs in Europe does not please everyone.

– We want those we train here to stay here and not leave the country, says Pilar Juste from the nursing union in Spain.

Here, large resources are spent on training staff for the hospitals – who then disappear abroad for better pay.

SVT met the Spanish nursing students Laia and Claudia who will soon be packing their bags and moving to Lund, Sweden, for an internship.

See what they think about the future and how they view Swedish care in the video above.
