Spanish football federation RFEF apologizes for Rubiales

Spain’s football federation apologizes after federation president Luis Rubiales, who is now suspended by Fifa, kissed player Jennifer Hermoso in connection with the medal ceremony after the World Cup final.

The RFEF apologizes for “the totally unacceptable behavior of its highest institutional representative during the World Cup final and the moments that followed,” a statement on the federation’s website reads.

In an open letter, the association apologizes “to the football world and to society as a whole”.

The kiss and the union’s actions after the scandal have been criticized worldwide and led to strong reactions.

On Tuesday, it was also announced that national team coach Jorge Vilda, who led the Spanish team to the World Cup gold, will be fired. This is reported by the newspaper Marca.

The coach came under fire after applauding Luis Rubiales when he announced a few days after the kiss that he will not be resigning from his post.
