A Spanish judge is calling Begoña Gómez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, to testify before a court as part of the corruption investigation surrounding her.
On July 5, she will appear in court in Madrid to answer questions about the investigation, which was made public in April – and which Sánchez has repeatedly called a “smear campaign”.
When the investigation was made public, Sánchez announced that he was taking a five-day break to think about the future, but later announced that he would remain in the post.
“There is nothing behind these accusations, just a cheap hoax created by right-wing extremist groups,” writes the prime minister on Tuesday on X.
The accusations against the wife are about her allegedly using her position to influence business deals. An anti-corruption group says the allegations are based on media reports and cannot guarantee their veracity.
Gómez himself has not commented on the allegations.
