Spain has won the Women’s World Cup. It defeated England 1–0 in the final match at Sydney’s Olympic Stadium Olga Carmona on the finish line.
The championship is the first for Spanish women. The team made it to the top four for the first time in this year’s games. The Spanish men’s national team celebrated the World Cup gold in 2010.
England’s only world championship is the men’s national team’s first place from 1966. The women’s team, which won the European Championship gold in 2022, has a bronze medal at the World Cup level from 2015.
Spain entered the tournament with uncertain starting points, as the team’s atmosphere was weak and some of the players were harshly criticized by the head coach Jorge Vilda.

England had trouble getting into the goal posts. Lauren James was able to shoot into the top corner in the 75th minute. Catalina Coll however, has placed well and rejects this as well.
At the end of extra time, England frantically searched for an equalizer, but Spain held on and got to celebrate.
