Spain is to give an additional 20 million euros, equivalent to roughly 220 million Swedish kronor, to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa.

– We will make a new contribution of 20 million euros to UNRWA to support the organization in its crucial humanitarian work, says Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares at a press conference.

Several countries, including Sweden, have previously paused their payments to the agency, following Israeli accusations that twelve Unrwa employees in Gaza participated in the terror-labeled Hamas attack on October 7.

UNRWA head Phillipe Lazzarini has claimed that Israel has not provided any evidence against the former employees and has launched an internal investigation.

Lazzarini, who also attended the press conference alongside José Manuel Albares, said he hoped Spain’s action would encourage countries that had paused their support for the body to resume it.

At the beginning of March, the European Commission opened up more than half a billion kroner in support to Unrwa.
